Supporting Billerica Residents
- When West Billerica was threatened by a 40B development on the Carlisle line, Selectman Lombardo stood with the residents in opposition.
- When a Power Plant proposal arrived in Billerica, Selectman Lombardo fought against the plant and the potentially horrific health effects it could inflict on the families of our community.
- When a proposal to eliminate trash pickup for all condo owners came before the Board, Selectman Lombardo fought for fairness and supported continued trash pickup for condo owners.
Being a Voice for Taxpayers
- Selectman Lombardo co-authored a warrant article and continually supported town meeting articles to return free cash to the taxpayers to offset the tax burden.
- Selectman Lombardo fought against unnecessary town spending, including the addition of new employees to the town payroll.
- Selectman Lombardo helped lead the way to repeal a trash removal fee for a whole category of items.
- Selectman Lombardo was the only selectman to call a proposed sewer connection fee increase to $1,000 outrageous.
Having a Vision for the Future
- Selectman Lombardo suggested the creation of a committee to explore the potential benefits of municipal wireless internet service to benefit the community and its students.
- Selectman Lombardo spoke against poor development initiatives that would have adversely affected the character of Billerica and didn’t comply with the town's master plan.
- Selectman Lombardo continually supported the expansion of town sewer service for residents.
- Selectman Lombardo understood the needs of our seniors and was a proponent of Federal 202B programs that would bring smart growth senior housing to Billerica. With the need for senior housing soaring, Selectman Lombardo, as a member of the Cabot Land Use Committee, made certain the creation of additional senior housing in Billerica was a priority of the committee.
Leadership in Action
- After hearing the concerns of residents at community meetings, Selectman Lombardo submitted a warrant article to enact a rubbish control by-law to help with efforts to keep Billerica clean.
- To acquire hands-on understanding of the needs of our emergency personnel, Selectman Lombardo participated in an intense training session sponsored by the Billerica Fire Department.
- Understanding the importance of recycling, Selectman Lombardo supported a mandatory recycling policy which has helped Billerica become a responsible steward of the environment and, because of its success, has led to financial savings for the town.
